Of tears and smiles Sarah had been crying because her mum had accidentally stepped on her toe. Hugs were no consolation to her and she sat in a chair in tears. "Oh Sarah!" I said. "Poor you." And gave her another hug to try and help. "She really hurt my toe." said Sarah. "Maybe it will fall off," I suggested consolingly, "then she'll be sorry!" Suddenly there were smiles and she went off to share this bit of information with her mother as further punishment for the toe squashing incident. And I wished we could all be like children and turn our hurts and grievances into such smiles.
