Frans Bellens was zeer gekend en geliefd in Brasschaat. De ere-directeur van de gemeentelijke tekenacademie was de initiatiefnemer voor de verbroedering van Brasschaat met Bad-Neuenahr – Ahrweiler en schreef talrijke boeken over de geschiedenis van de gemeente.
